GLOSSARY
Containment score
A number you can track, that goes up when your judgment is safe and down when it has quietly moved.
Definition
Containment score = decisions with all three of (a) a named accountable owner, (b) verification out of band, (c) a tested fallback — divided by all consequential decisions in the period.
How to compute it
- List the decisions made this quarter that could hurt someone if wrong.
- For each, mark a / b / c. Half-marks are not allowed.
- Divide the count with all three by the total. Report the three components separately.
Two instruments, not one
Keep a separate unexplained delegation list: decisions you cannot explain without “the system recommended it”. Raise the containment score; lower that list. Conflating them is how a good metric becomes useless.
